V-Star 1300/XVS1300 Midnight Star (2007-2014): "A 1930s-Inspired Hardtail Look," Built Around a Genuinely New Engine

VikingBags' own history details exactly what set the V-Star 1300 apart from the platform it replaced: "unlike the V-Star 1100 cruisers — discontinued in 2007 — the new middleweight cruiser had a larger engine that displaced 1,304cc, a modern fuel injection system, and a clean belt drive." Launched in 2007 in two distinct configurations — the standard XVS1300A Midnight Star and the touring-equipped XVS1300CT V-Star Tourer — this generation gave Yamaha's mid-displacement cruiser line a genuine mechanical reinvention rather than an incremental update.

Power comes from a 1,304cc liquid-cooled V-twin with a 60-degree V angle, an 100mm x 83mm bore and stroke, and a 9.5:1 compression ratio, delivering a claimed 70-72.5 hp with roughly 82 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm through a 5-speed constant-mesh transmission with belt final drive. VikingBags' own touring-focused history notes a genuine mid-cycle engine refinement: "in 2008, the OHC in the fuel control was replaced by the SOHC" — a real internal valvetrain change carried forward through the rest of this generation's production run.

Autoevolution's own year-by-year model history confirms this platform stayed remarkably consistent across its production life: the 2015 model "packed no significant modification over its production period except for color alterations," carrying forward the exact same specification as its earlier siblings. Styling stayed genuinely faithful to Yamaha's deliberate design brief throughout: a teardrop-shaped fuel tank with an aircraft-style cover, valanced metal fenders, a two-piece dual seat set at a genuinely low riding position, bullet-style turn signals, a two-into-one chromed exhaust, and seven-spoke cast aluminum wheels — VikingBags' own description sums up the overall effect as "a 1930s-inspired low steel chassis, laidback riding position... and hidden rear suspension [that] create a 'hardtail look.'" A genuine ergonomic touch distinguished the 1300 from smaller V-Star siblings: handlebar-mounted instruments rather than tank-mounted gauges, letting riders check their speed without looking down and away from the road.

The Tourer variant added genuinely functional long-distance equipment: a tall windscreen for wind and weather protection, a passenger backrest, and leather-wrapped hard-sided saddlebags for extended storage — all removable for riders wanting to switch back to a stripped-down solo cruiser configuration. The chassis uses a double-cradle steel frame with a 41mm telescopic fork up front and a link-type, preload-adjustable rear shock, delivering dual 298mm front discs and a single 298mm rear disc for braking. Seat height sits at a genuinely low 28.1 inches, with an 18.5-litre (4.9 US gallon) fuel tank and dry weight around 624 lbs.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2007-2014 V-Star 1300/XVS1300 running the way it was built to.
