WaveRunner VX Sport VX1100, VX Deluxe VX1100B and VX Cruiser VX1100A (2010-2015): Yamaha’s Three-Seat Mid-Size PWC

The VX is the Yamaha WaveRunner that led the personal watercraft industry in sales for years, and it comes in three trims. The VX Sport is the entry-level model, the VX Deluxe adds conveniences such as a reboarding step and Yamaha’s remote transmitter with Low RPM Mode, and the VX Cruiser adds a cruiser seat with deep bolsters for longer rides. For 2010 Yamaha tweaked the boat with a more spacious new deck, up to four inches more driver legroom, a larger seat bolster for passengers, a refined sponson location and a new ride plate and intake grate. Its center of gravity was moved slightly aft for a lighter, more playful feel on the water. All three are rated for three riders, with a capacity of about 530 lbs. The 2010 US prices were $8,699 for the Deluxe and $8,999 for the Cruiser.

Power comes from Yamaha’s MR-1 marine engine, a 1,052cc, 20-valve, DOHC, four-stroke, fuel-injected four-cylinder with a 76mm bore, a 58mm stroke and an 11.4:1 compression ratio. It’s rated at about 110 hp at 8,000 rpm and is water-cooled with an open-loop system, and the boat runs on regular fuel with an electric starter. Yamaha’s Sound Suppression System keeps noise down, and a speed governor, a safety lanyard and an emergency engine shut-off are standard. The 2015 VX series keeps the 110-hp Yamaha Marine engine, with a new steering feel from the RiDE dual throttle control system, a feature all the 2015 VX models share, and the Deluxe adds Cruise Assist and No Wake Mode.

The 2010-2014 boats are built on a progressive stepped-V hull, with sheet molded compound (SMC) for the hull and deck, sponsons, a boarding step and automatic siphon bilge. Features include digital instrumentation, a glovebox, underseat storage, a front storage well, rearview mirrors and a steering assist system. They measure about 126.8 inches long, 46.1 inches wide and 45.7 inches high, and the VX Deluxe has a dry weight of about 743 lbs (337 kg). For 2015 Yamaha redesigned the whole line on a new 131.5-inch hull, about three inches longer and two inches wider than the old one, and the NanoXcel composite on all but the base VX saves about 50 lbs. The 2015 VX Deluxe has a dry weight of about 725 lbs, and the 2015 VX Cruiser has an 18.5-gallon (70-litre) tank and about 24.6 gallons of storage.

The factory manual for these boats, Yamaha’s F2N, covers general information, specifications, maintenance, the fuel system, the power unit, the jet pump unit, the electrical system, the hull and hood and troubleshooting.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a WaveRunner VX running the way it was built to.
