Yamaha Ténéré 700 XTZ690 (2025-2026): The Mid-Size Adventure Bike with a New Tank, 6.3-Inch TFT and Ride Modes
For 2025 Yamaha gave the Ténéré 700 its most comprehensive update since the model launched in 2019. The engine gets a chip-controlled throttle (YCC-T) with two selectable power modes, Sport and Explorer, plus traction control. There’s a larger 6.3-inch TFT dash, new switchgear and turn-signal functions, upgraded suspension with more adjustability and bottoming resistance and a three-mode ABS system (both wheels, front only, or off) with a one-touch ABS/TC button. The look is more rally-inspired, with a new quad-LED headlight, new side covers and tail section, color-matched handguards, a flatter one-piece seat and wider, longer footpegs. The fuel tank is reshaped to sit lower and farther forward, which lowers the center of gravity, and it has a new flip-up fuel cap. A new clutch cover reduces leg interference, the kickstand mount is raised 15mm to avoid a common failure point and the muffler mount is beefed up. The 2025 US price rose to $10,999.
The engine is the 689cc CP2, a liquid-cooled DOHC parallel twin with four valves per cylinder, an 80mm bore, a 68.6mm stroke and an 11.5:1 compression ratio. Fuel injection with YCC-T feeds it, and a shorter air intake duct improves torque and power delivery in the low-to-mid rpm range. It makes a claimed 72.4 hp at 9,000 rpm and about 50 lb-ft of torque, and it meets Euro 5+ rules. The transmission is a 6-speed with a wet multiplate clutch and chain drive, and fuel economy is about 54.7 mpg.
The Ténéré rolls on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tube-type spoked wheels, with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, a 90/90R21 at the front and a 150/70R18 at the rear. The wheelbase is 62.8 inches. Seat height is 34.4 inches (875mm), with a lowered version at 860mm and the Rally at 35.8 inches.
The tank holds 4.2 gallons (16 litres), and the claimed wet weight with a full tank is about 459 lbs, about seven pounds more than the previous bike.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Yamaha Ténéré 700 running the way it was built to.
