Trophy (2012-2017): A Shaft-Drive 1,215cc Triple Built to Take On the BMW K1600GT

Triumph launched the all-new Trophy in 2012 as a sport-tourer to challenge the BMW K1600GT. The SE came with electronically adjustable suspension as standard, where on the BMW it was a $1,295 option package. The press called its power relentlessly linear, with strong, perfectly linear delivery everywhere.

Power comes from the 1,215cc liquid-cooled DOHC 12-valve inline-three. It has an 85mm x 71.4mm bore and stroke and is shared with the Tiger Explorer, but the Trophy makes slightly less power and has a taller sixth gear for touring. Claimed output is 134 PS (99 kW) at 8,900 rpm and 120 Nm (88.5 lb-ft) at 6,450 rpm, fed by fuel injection with ride-by-wire, through a 6-speed gearbox with shaft final drive.

The SE has a twin-spar aluminium beam frame with a 43mm WP inverted fork and a WP rear shock. Both have electronically adjustable rebound damping in three modes (Sport, Normal and Comfort), and the rear has electronically adjustable hydraulic preload with settings for one-up, one-up plus luggage, and two-up. The fork has 127mm of travel and the rear shock has 120mm. Brakes are dual 320mm front discs and a 282mm rear disc with a Nissin two-piston caliper and ABS, which is not switchable. Tires are 120/70ZR17 front and 190/55ZR17 rear.

Equipment includes cruise control, traction control, an electrically adjustable windscreen, electronically adjustable headlights, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a Bluetooth audio system with two 20W speakers, digital signal processing and automatic volume control, with iPod connectivity. Confirmed figures list a 60.7-inch (1,542mm) wheelbase, a 30.3-inch (770mm) seat height, a 6.6-7-gallon (25-26-litre) tank, and a weight of 650-694 lbs depending on source. Triumph built it in Hinckley, England.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2012-2017 Trophy 1215 (Trophy SE) running the way it was built to.
