Tiger 1200 XC/XCx (2018-2021): Lighter, Sharper, and Genuinely Off-Road Capable
2018 marked a substantial overhaul for the Tiger 1200 XC line, not just a mid-cycle refresh. The XCx dropped roughly 5% of its weight, gained an upgraded 1,215cc inline triple, a new lightweight rear silencer, and five traction-control modes, while the range-topping XCa shed a further 5% and added heated seats and grips, an electric adjustable windscreen, and adaptive LED cornering lighting — genuine engineering work behind the spec-sheet bragging rights.
The 1,215cc triple delivers a claimed 139 PS (137 hp) at 9,300 rpm and 90.7 lb-ft of torque at 6,200 rpm, run through a 6-speed gearbox with shaft final drive. Every XC-line bike came standard with cornering ABS and traction control, a full-color TFT dash, five power modes, semi-active WP suspension, cruise control, and an electronically adjustable screen — a genuinely comprehensive spec sheet that helped justify pricing at the top of the adventure-bike segment. Where the road-biased XR models ran cast wheels, the XC range switched to spoked wheels front and rear, signaling real off-road intent rather than just styling.
On loose surfaces, the XC proved genuinely capable: selecting off-road mode frees up the rear wheel for controlled slides while keeping the front ABS engaged, giving confident riders room to play. At 248kg dry it's no lightweight, and less experienced off-roaders may find the sump guard clipping the ground over larger bumps, but reviewers consistently rated it excellent on tarmac with real trail capability layered on top.
