Triumph Street Triple R 675 (2008-2012): The Fully Adjustable, Radial-Braked Streetfighter

The Street Triple R is the uprated version of Triumph’s middleweight naked, a multi-award-winning streetfighter with fully adjustable sports suspension, radial four-piston brakes and Speed Triple-inspired styling. It shares the standard bike’s engine, but the R has a Kayaba 41mm upside-down fork and a piggyback-reservoir monoshock that are both adjustable for preload, compression and rebound, a sharper rake and a seat 5mm taller than the standard bike’s. The front brakes are the Daytona 675’s fully radial Nissin setup, with a radial master cylinder and steel braided lines, and it has a different handlebar and seat, with five-spoke lightweight wheels and a high-mounted exhaust. It has twin headlights with the instrument cluster mounted on top (the 2012 bike has angular headlights), and 2010-2011 bikes came in Matte Orange and Matte Grey. At about 167 kg it’s lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, with a top speed of about 141 mph and ABS available as an option on later bikes.

The engine is a 675cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline triple with four valves per cylinder (12 in all), a 74mm x 52.3mm bore and stroke and a 12.65:1 compression ratio. Multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection with secondary air injection feeds it. Triumph claims 105-107 hp at 11,700 rpm and 68 Nm (50 lb-ft) of torque at 9,100-9,200 rpm. The gearbox is a six-speed close-ratio box with a wet multi-plate clutch and an O-ring chain final drive.

The frame is an aluminum beam twin-spar with a braced twin-sided aluminum swingarm. The fork travel is quoted as 120-130mm and the rear as 126-130mm, depending on the source. Brakes are twin 308mm floating discs with Nissin four-piston radial calipers and a 220mm rear disc with a Nissin single-piston caliper. Tires are a 120/70ZR17 at the front and a 180/55ZR17 at the rear.

The Street Triple R is about 2,029mm (79.9 inches) long and 754mm (29.7 inches) wide, on a wheelbase of about 1,410mm (55.5 inches). Seat height is 805mm (31.7 inches). The tank holds about 17.4 litres (4.6 gallons). The Street Triple R weighs about 167 kg (368 lbs) dry, and about 182-189 kg (400-416 lbs) wet.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Street Triple R 675 running the way it was built to.
