Speed Triple 1050 (2005-2007): "A Declaration," Not Just a Motorcycle

Bennetts' own history of the Speed Triple nameplate frames 2005 as a genuine turning point: "the 1050 was a defining model in the history of the Speed Triple for a number of reasons. Not only did it debut underseat exhaust pipes and radial brake calipers, it was the first time the naked bike had been designed as a model in its own right, rather than rely on Daytona hand-me-downs." With Triumph's large-capacity sportsbike production halted, the Speed Triple stepped up to become the flagship — and Triumph built it a genuinely dedicated new platform rather than another repurposed Daytona chassis.

Power comes from a 1,050cc liquid-cooled inline-three, DOHC with 12 valves, delivering a claimed 130-131 hp at 9,100-9,250 rpm and roughly 77-78 lb-ft of torque at 5,100-7,500 rpm depending on source, fed by multipoint sequential fuel injection through a 6-speed gearbox with chain final drive. One enthusiast retrospective calls the delivery "intelligent" rather than just powerful — "crack the throttle at 1,500 RPM, and the triple pulls with the smooth urgency of a freight train," with a genuine 90% of peak torque already available by 3,500 rpm, a real advantage for both city commuting and aggressive backroad riding.

A brand-new frame was designed specifically to give this generation genuinely greater agility than the outgoing 955i, which Bennetts' history describes as feeling "long and ponderous" by comparison — Triumph paired that new chassis with beefier front forks, a new swingarm, and a repositioned 1050cc engine to banish that older bike's lazier handling character. Early production units ran PVM wheels before Triumph quietly switched to standard cast alloy units after the first year to trim production costs — a genuine detail worth knowing when evaluating an early 2005 example against a later one. Styling carried the twin round "bug-eye" headlights that had defined the Speed Triple silhouette since the 1997 T509, sharpened for 2005 with a shorter, more aggressively truncated tail section. 2006 brought a Fusion White colorway alongside the existing Jet Black, Neon Blue, and Scorched Yellow options, plus an extensive range of genuine Triumph accessories including a fly screen, rear hugger, seat cover, frame protectors, grab rail, belly pan, and factory alarm. Claimed wet weight sits around 189kg (417 lbs), with a genuine 142 mph top speed.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2005-2007 Speed Triple 1050 running the way it was built to.
