Rocket 3 GT (2021): The World's Biggest Production Triple, Refined for Touring

Triumph didn't just build the largest engine in production motorcycling — it built an entire bike around that engine, and the Rocket 3 GT's styling makes no attempt to hide it. This is, quite literally, mostly an engine with a seat and wheels attached, powered by a 2,458cc triple that remains the world's largest production motorcycle powerplant. The GT designation marks the touring-oriented sibling to the more stripped-down Rocket 3 R, adding a comfortable tailored pillion seat and a more relaxed riding position suited to genuine distance covering.

Peak output is a claimed 165 hp at 6,000 rpm, an 11% jump over the previous generation, with meaningful power available from as low as 3,500 rpm through a raised 7,000 rpm redline. Beyond the sheer displacement, the engineering is genuinely sophisticated: a mass-optimized crankcase assembly and new balancer shafts shed nearly 40 lbs versus the outgoing engine, while a dry-sump lubrication system with an integral oil tank keeps the package tighter than a conventional wet-sump design would allow. Machined fins on the crank cases, head, and cam cover give the whole assembly genuine showpiece detailing.

Styling leans hard into muscular presence: a distinctive single-sided swingarm with offset monoshock suspension, intricate 20-spoke wheels wrapped in high-spec Avon Cobra Chrome tires (a massive 240/50 ZR16 rear), a sculpted five-gallon tank with a Monza-style filler cap, and twin LED headlights bearing Triumph's maker's-mark triangle branding. A second-generation TFT instrument cluster allows rider name personalization on startup. 2021 colors included Phantom Black and a two-tone Silver Ice/Storm Grey, with a limited-run Triple Black special edition — 1,000 units worldwide, each with its own certificate of authenticity — adding a three-shade blackout treatment and carbon fiber front fender. Pricing started around $20,800-$22,600.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2021 Rocket 3 GT running the way it was built to.
