Suzuki VS750 Intruder (1988-1991): The Last Years of Suzuki’s 750 Intruder Before the VS800
Cycle World named the Intruder one of its Ten Best Bikes when it came out in 1985, calling it “a turning point in the evolution of the cruiser genre,” and by 1992 its smooth, contoured lines hadn’t aged. The 1988 bike got a new, more comfortable seat, and a 21-inch front wheel replaced the 19-inch around this time, according to Cycle World, though other sources date the bigger wheel to the VS800 in 1989, so check your bike’s front wheel before ordering tires or parts. It’s a low-slung cruiser with a pullback handlebar, wire-spoke wheels and shaft drive, and it came without a windshield. 1991 was the last year, after which the VS800 took over with a larger engine.
Power comes from a liquid-cooled 747cc SOHC 45-degree V-twin with TSCC (Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber) heads and eight valves in total. The specs are a bore and stroke of 80mm x 74.4mm, a compression ratio of 10:1 and about 50 hp (36.5 kW) at 7,500 rpm, with a top speed of about 165 km/h. The gearbox is a 5-speed with shaft drive.
Brakes are a single front disc and a rear drum, and tires are a 100/90-19 front (on bikes with the 19-inch wheel) and a 140/90-15 rear. Confirmed figures list a 12-litre (3.2 US gallon) tank and a weight of about 215 kg (474 lbs) with fluids.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Suzuki VS750 Intruder running the way it was built to.
