Suzuki VS600 Intruder (1995-1997): The Smaller, Lighter V-Twin in the Intruder Family

The Intruder 600 is a classic 90s custom cruiser. It’s low, easy to ride and has an American chopper style, and owners describe it as stable, with a relaxed upright riding position, low fuel consumption and a robust, simple engine. It’s often recommended as a first cruiser, a weekend bike or a base for bobber and chopper builds. Designed more for strolling than racing, it was priced at about €5,510 in Italy in 1995. It was based on the larger Intruder 750’s engine design and shared the same chrome-heavy styling.

Power comes from a 598cc liquid-cooled 45-degree V-twin with SOHC and four valves per cylinder (eight in total). Specs for the 1995 model are an 80mm x 59.5mm bore and stroke and a 9.5:1 compression ratio, fed by two 34mm Mikuni carburetors, with electronic ignition and electric start. Power is about 45 hp at 7,500 rpm on the 1995 model, and about 41 hp at 7,400 rpm on the 1996 GLF, depending on the source and market. The gearbox is a 5-speed with shaft drive, and top speed is about 160 km/h.

The chassis has a 39mm telescopic fork with 130mm of travel and dual rear shocks with spring preload adjustment and 80mm of travel. Tires are an 80/90-21 front and a 140/90-15 rear, with a drum rear brake and a front disc setup that varies by listing. Confirmed figures list a 1,430mm (56.3-inch) wheelbase, a 685mm (27-inch) seat height, 125mm of ground clearance, a 12-litre (3.2 US gallon) tank and a dry weight of about 200 kg (441 lbs).

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Suzuki VS600 Intruder running the way it was built to.
