TS200R (1989-1996): Suzuki’s Liquid-Cooled 200 Two-Stroke Trail Bike with Exhaust-Timing Control

The TS200R launched for 1989 with a newly designed engine. It added AETC, Suzuki’s Automatic Exhaust Timing Control, a 30mm slingshot Mikuni carburetor and a digital CDI. It was Suzuki’s liquid-cooled 200cc trail bike. It had long-travel suspension and a six-speed gearbox, and it stayed largely the same until 1996. The year codes run from K for 1989 to T for 1996.

Power comes from a 195cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder reed-valve two-stroke, with a 66mm x 57mm bore and stroke and an 8.5:1 compression ratio. It uses a Mikuni TM30SS carburetor with Suzuki CCI oil injection and PEI (CDI) ignition, and it’s kick-start only. Output is about 35 hp (26.1 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 29.4 Nm (21.7 lb-ft) of torque at 7,500 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed constant-mesh with a wet cable-operated clutch, and final drive is by 106-link RK520 chain. The spark plug is an NGK BR9ES and the battery is 12V, 3Ah.

The chassis is a steel single-cradle frame with a telescopic fork and a monoshock swingarm with adjustable damping, both with 270mm (10.6 inches) of wheel travel. Brakes are a single disc at the front and a single disc at the rear. Tires are an 80/100-21 front and a 110/90-18 rear.

Confirmed figures list a 2,185mm (86.0-inch) length, an 880mm (34.6-inch) width, a 1,245mm (49.0-inch) height, a 43-degree steering angle, 62 degrees 30 minutes of caster and 117mm (4.6 inches) of trail.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 1989-1996 Suzuki TS200R running the way it was built to.
