GSX-S1000GT+: A GSX-R1000-Derived Sport-Tourer with Standard 36-Litre Side Cases
Suzuki built the GT+ as the sport-touring version of the redesigned GSX-S1000. The GT+ is the one with the 36-litre panniers fitted, and the case lids carry painted panels in the body colour. It is the first Suzuki with a 6.5-inch TFT display. The tank holds 19 litres (5.0 US gal), up from the 17 litres of the GSX-S1000F it replaced.
Power comes from the 999cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four, a long-running engine derived from the GSX-R1000 K5. It has a 73.4mm x 59.0mm bore and stroke and a 12.2:1 compression ratio, fed by 40mm ride-by-wire throttle bodies with long-tip 10-hole injectors. Claimed output is 150 hp at 11,000 rpm and 78 lb-ft (about 106 Nm) at 9,250 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed with a bi-directional quickshifter and a larger-diameter assist-and-slipper clutch. Suzuki added a new shift cam and shift shaft, and the revised engine smooths out the hesitant feel of the GSX-S1000F's. It has three power modes (A, B and C) and five-level traction control, and the valve inspection interval is 15,000 miles.
The chassis is a twin-spar cast aluminum frame with a fully adjustable 43mm inverted KYB fork (4.7 inches of travel) and a link-type KYB rear shock with preload and rebound adjustment (5.1 inches). Brakes are dual 310mm floating discs with Brembo radial four-piston calipers and a single 240mm rear disc, with ABS. Tires are Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 in 120/70ZR17 front and 190/50ZR17 rear sizes.
Confirmed figures list a 57.5-inch wheelbase, a 25-degree rake with 3.9 inches of trail, a 31.9-inch (810mm) seat height and a wet weight of 498 lbs without the cases. Top speed is about 145 mph. Suzuki sold it in Metallic Reflective Blue and Glass Sparkle Black, at $13,799 for the GT+ in the US.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a GSX-S1000GT+ running the way it was built to.
