GSX-S1000 (2021-Onwards): Euro 5 Engine, Ride-by-Wire and a Fresh Stacked-LED Face on the GSX-R1000 K5 Engine
Suzuki gave its naked liter-bike a thorough update for 2021. Nearly every visible panel changed, with stacked hexagonal LED headlights replacing the broad first-generation face. The tank grew from 17 to 19 litres, and the tapered handlebar became 23mm wider and sits 20mm closer to the rider. Suzuki kept the same exhaust note as before despite the new Euro 5 exhaust and extra catalytic converter.
Power comes from the 999cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four, still the long-stroke engine derived from the GSX-R1000 K5. It has a 73.4mm x 59.0mm bore and stroke and a 12.2:1 compression ratio. The top end was reworked for Euro 5, with new camshafts with less lift and overlap, new valve springs, a new airbox and smaller 40mm ride-by-wire throttle bodies (down from 44mm). Claimed output is 150 bhp (152 PS) at 11,000 rpm, a couple of horsepower up on the old bike, and 106 Nm (78 lb-ft) at 9,250 rpm, through a 6-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quickshifter and auto-blipper and an updated assist-and-slipper clutch.
Electronics are the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). It has the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector with three power modes (A, B and C) that share the same peak power but deliver it differently, five-level traction control plus off, Low RPM Assist and a dash borrowed from the GSX-R1000, which is a simple monochrome LCD, not a colour TFT.
The chassis is a twin-spar aluminum frame with fully adjustable 43mm inverted KYB suspension, retuned for the new Dunlop Roadsport 2 tires. Confirmed figures list a 2,115mm length, 810mm width, 1,080mm height, 1,460mm wheelbase, 140mm of ground clearance and a 31.9-inch (810mm) seat height. Kerb weight is 214kg (472 lbs). The UK launch price was £10,999. The GSX-S1000GT and GT+ sport-tourers share this engine.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2021-onwards GSX-S1000 running the way it was built to.
