Suzuki Sport's own retrospective doesn't undersell the K6/K7's legend: it "earned the nickname of 'kill a thousand'" for its exhilarating, exploitable performance and near-perfect balance — genuinely capable of running with 1000cc supersport rivals despite its smaller displacement. MCN's own review calls it a product of "the height of the Japanese firm's purple patch," a bike that attained immediate cult status among speed freaks and scratchers alike, and one many considered "always more of a riot than the GSX-R1000" of the same era.

The 749cc liquid-cooled inline-four, DOHC with a 70.0mm x 48.7mm bore and stroke and a 12.5:1 compression ratio, was genuinely reworked for 2006 — a lighter, more compact, shorter-stroke design with a stacked gearbox and a secondary balance shaft to tame high-rpm vibration, delivering a claimed 148-150 hp at 12,800 rpm and roughly 64 lb-ft of torque at 11,200 rpm, run through Suzuki fuel injection and an ultra-compact underslung exhaust with an electronic exhaust valve. A slipper clutch — borrowed directly from the flagship GSX-R1000 K5 — appeared on the 750 for the first time this generation, delivering genuinely smoother, more controlled downshifts and corner entry.

Bennetts' own buyer's guide details the chassis changes behind the performance leap: an all-new aluminum twin-spar frame, an underslung exhaust and repositioned engine that lowered the center of gravity, and a swingarm lengthened by 35-38mm for improved rear-end grip, with its pivot point relocated and the rear shock redesigned. The whole package came out 15mm shorter overall with a 15mm-lower 810mm seat height, while dry weight settled at a genuinely svelte 163kg (359 lbs). Front suspension used 41mm inverted Showa forks — 2mm narrower than the outgoing K5's but, Suzuki claimed, just as rigid thanks to reduced seal friction and a titanium-nitride coating unique to the 750 within the GSX-R range. Dual 310mm front discs (up 10mm from the previous generation) were gripped by 4-piston radial Tokico calipers with a radial master cylinder. Suzuki gave the bike adjustable footpegs as standard — three positions with 14mm of horizontal and vertical range — a genuinely thoughtful touch for a supersport bike, alongside a mixed analog-digital dash with a gear position indicator and rev warning light. This K6/K7 generation remained in Suzuki's lineup until the K8 replaced it for 2008.
