Hayabusa Gen 2 (2008-2020): Bigger Engine, Sharper Edge on a Legend

The second-generation Hayabusa arrived in 2008 with a job to do: keep the "fastest production motorcycle" reputation alive while dragging the chassis, brakes, and electronics into the modern era. Suzuki bumped displacement, retuned the head, pistons, and exhaust, and gave the bike a mildly reworked fairing, a taller windscreen, a digital speedometer, and a gear position indicator — evolution rather than reinvention, which is exactly what a bike this dominant needed.

Power comes from a 1,340cc liquid-cooled inline-four, DOHC with 16 valves, producing a claimed 197 hp at the crank and around 102 lb-ft of torque, run through a 6-speed gearbox. That combination is enough to put the Gen 2 Hayabusa into the sub-10-second quarter-mile bracket and reportedly close to 190-200 mph flat out, depending on the specific model year and market restrictions. Suzuki continued refining the platform through its 12-year run — most notably in 2013, when the Hayabusa picked up Brembo monobloc front calipers and ABS in place of the earlier Tokico radial units.

Weight sits in the 570-590 lb range depending on year and fluids, and the wheelbase runs a long, stable 58.5 inches — part of why the Hayabusa launches so hard without spinning up into a wheelie. Despite the outright performance, Suzuki kept the suspension fully adjustable and genuinely usable on the road, not just tuned for a drag strip.

Whether it's a track-day regular or a garage-kept example, this factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2008-2020 Gen 2 Hayabusa running the way it was built to.
