Super Meteor 650 (2022-Onwards): Royal Enfield's Heaviest Bike Ever, Built Around a Genuinely New Chassis
Rider Magazine's own launch coverage frames the Super Meteor 650 as a genuine evolution rather than a badge exercise — Royal Enfield's Managing Director Siddhartha Lal called it "the next evolution" of the company's "differentiated approach to building motorcycles," inspired directly by the brand's own long-distance riding experiences and those of its customers. Unveiled at EICMA 2022 as the third motorcycle built around Royal Enfield's 648cc parallel-twin (following the Interceptor and Continental GT), it marked the brand's genuine return to a full-size cruiser as a core lineup offering.
Power comes from the proven 648cc air-cooled parallel-twin shared with the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT, delivering a claimed 47 hp and roughly 38 lb-ft of torque. What's genuinely new is everything wrapped around that engine: a completely fresh tubular steel spine frame developed in collaboration with British chassis specialist Harris Performance, engineered specifically for a low center of gravity and long-distance stability rather than simply adapting the existing 650 platform's chassis. Autocar India's launch coverage highlighted two genuine firsts for the brand: a chunky 43mm Showa inverted front fork — the first USD suspension Royal Enfield has ever fitted — offering 120mm of travel, paired with twin rear shocks with preload adjustability delivering 101mm of travel, and a full-LED headlight, another company first.
EVO India's own breakdown notes the trade-offs that come with the cruiser mission: at 241kg, the Super Meteor is the heaviest Royal Enfield ever built, though a genuinely low 740mm seat height keeps it approachable and easy to maneuver despite the mass — a deliberate balance for a bike built around comfort over agility. Braking comes from a 320mm front disc and 300mm rear disc with standard dual-channel ABS, riding on 19-inch front and 16-inch (or 17-inch, depending on market) rear alloy wheels shod with CEAT Zoom Cruz tubeless tires. The lineup splits into two distinct variants: the standard Super Meteor 650 and the Tourer, which adds a touring dual seat, taller windscreen, passenger backrest, panniers, and LED indicators as standard equipment for genuine highway-mile comfort. A TBT (turn-by-turn) navigation system comes standard across the range, alongside full LED lighting throughout.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2022-onwards Super Meteor 650 running the way it was built to.
