Bullet 500 EFI (2017-2020): "No Other Motorcycle in the World Can Boast" This Kind of Legacy

Power comes from a 499cc air-cooled single-cylinder OHV engine, an 84mm x 90mm near-square bore and stroke with an 8.5:1 compression ratio, delivering a claimed 27.2 hp at 5,200-5,250 rpm and 30.5 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm through Keihin electronic fuel injection — a genuine modernization of an engine architecture that traces back decades, first fitted with EFI to meet Euro 3 emissions in the mid-2000s. Both electric and kick start remain standard, run through a 5-speed constant-mesh gearbox with wet multiplate clutch and chain final drive. A round-the-world rider's own 57,000-mile review found the bike "works like a Swiss watch no matter what you throw at it," including running on 80-octane fuel in Uzbekistan without complaint, and returning roughly 90 mpg along the way.

The chassis uses a single downtube frame with the engine as a stressed member — genuinely old-school architecture — paired with a telescopic front fork (130mm travel) and twin gas-charged rear shocks with 5-step preload adjustment (80mm travel). Braking comes from a single hydraulic front disc and a rear drum, riding on a 19-inch front wheel with a 3.25-section tire. A hand-painted fuel tank, chrome detailing, and the Bullet's distinctive deep exhaust "thump" — what Royal Enfield itself calls "the Beat" — round out the character-driven appeal that's earned it a spot among Cycle World's picks for motorcycles with genuine soul. A 3.8-gallon (14.5-litre) fuel tank and 24-month warranty backed this generation, with 2020 U.S. pricing at $4,999 in Jet Black only, right before production ceased entirely due to India's BS-VI emissions requirements.
