Polaris RZR XP 1000 2017-2018 Service Manual

The RZR XP 1000 EPS is Polaris’s hottest non-turbo RZR, a 64-inch-wide sport UTV with long-travel suspension and a ProStar engine. It has Walker Evans needle shocks with 16-position compression clickers, a ProStar 1000 engine with electric power steering and true on-demand AWD/2WD, and room for two. A four-seat version, the RZR XP 4 1000 EPS, shares the platform with a longer wheelbase. For 2018 the standard colors were Black Pearl, replacing Ti Matte Metallic, and White Lightning, and Polaris cut the price from $19,499 to $17,999. The bike has an ignition switch with an accessory position that lets you run accessories without draining the battery, and the 2017 line-up included High Lifter and Velocity Blue special editions.

Power comes from the ProStar 1000, a 999cc liquid-cooled, DOHC, parallel-twin four-stroke with eight valves, a 93mm bore, a 73.5mm stroke and an 11:1 compression ratio. Two 48mm EFI throttle bodies feed it, and it makes about 110 hp with about 71 lb-ft (96 Nm) of torque. Power goes through the automatic PVT with P, R, N, L and H positions and a shaft drive, and the True On-Demand AWD/2WD system sends power to the wheels that need it. Testers report a top speed of about 78 mph.

The suspension is long-travel, with dual A-arms at the front with 2.0-inch Walker Evans needle shocks and 16 inches of travel, and a trailing arm with a stabilizer bar at the rear with 2.5-inch Walker Evans shocks and 18 inches of travel. The brakes are hydraulic discs, and the bike rolls on cast aluminum wheels with 29x9-14 Maxxis Bighorn tires at the front and 29x11-14 at the rear. The XP 1000 measures 119 inches long, 64 inches wide and 73.75 inches high, with a 90-inch (2,286mm) wheelbase and 13.5 inches (343mm) of ground clearance.

The fuel tank holds 9.5 gallons (36 litres). Claimed dry weight is 1,369 lbs (621 kg), the payload is 740 lbs (336 kg), and the box holds 300 lbs (136 kg). The XP 4 1000 is 146 inches long on a 117-inch wheelbase, seats four and weighs about 1,565 lbs dry, with a 900-lb payload.
