RZR XP/XP 4 1000 (2014-2015): The Launch of the "Most Powerful and Largest Engine in Its Class"
Polaris's own 2014 launch announcement didn't undersell the achievement: "specifically built for the pinnacle of extreme performance, an all-new Polaris ProStar 1000 engine provides an industry-leading 107 horsepower with a true 999ccs of displacement, making it the most powerful and largest engine in its class." This was the RZR XP 1000's genuine debut generation — an all-new machine, not an update, launched at $19,999 US ($22,699 Canadian) alongside the four-seat XP 4 1000 variant.
Power comes from the all-new ProStar 1000, a 999cc parallel-twin four-stroke engine, developed with dual 48mm throttle bodies and long-tip fuel injectors specifically to ensure each cylinder gets exactly the air and fuel it needs for genuinely unmatched throttle response and acceleration. UTV Guide's own coverage of the 2015 update details the follow-up gain: Polaris bumped output to 110 hp for that model year through a new calibration featuring high-output cams, stiffer valve springs, and a higher 11:1 compression ratio — a genuine 9% more power than anything else in the class at the time, backed by a revised exhaust system incorporating closed-loop control and catalyst technology for cleaner, more efficient running alongside the added output.
UTV Off-Road Magazine's own feature rundown for the 2014 launch model covers the chassis and suspension work behind the "unmatched Power, Suspension and Agility" positioning: 13.5 inches of ground clearance, a 90-inch wheelbase, 64-inch width, and 29-inch Maxxis Bighorn tires, riding on Walker Evans Position Sensitive Anti-Bottoming Needle shocks (2.5-in. rear, 2.0-in. front) with dual-rate, dual-spring setups and crossover. Quick, two-turn, lock-to-lock steering paired with dual-piston calipers on larger 248mm ventilated discs at all four corners delivered genuinely confident handling and braking for a machine this powerful. A tubular chassis, bolstered seats with tool-less sliders, an extra inch of legroom, factory quarter doors, LED floor lighting, a 50% larger glovebox, a bigger cargo box, and a larger 9.5-gallon fuel tank rounded out the comfort and practicality upgrades — genuinely running on regular 87-octane fuel despite the substantial power output. Launch colors included White Lightning and Titanium Matte Metallic, with a genuinely rare 206-unit Dakar Limited Edition sold exclusively through international dealerships starting December 2013.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2014-2015 RZR XP/XP 4 1000 running the way it was built to.
