X-Cape 650 (2022-2026): The Bike Someone Mistook for "Just Another Guy Thinking He's Valentino"
Cycle News' own review opens with a genuinely memorable anecdote from a Sicilian road trip: a local guide dismisses a bike ripping past their car at speed as "just another guy thinking he's Valentino on one of those Moto Morinis" — a real testament to how thoroughly this once-struggling Italian marque, under new Chinese ownership, has re-established itself in its home market. ADV Pulse's own confirmed account traces the genuine sales success behind this: "the X-Cape 650 has been one of its most successful in the current lineup, even becoming the 8th best-selling motorcycle in Italy after its release in 2021."
Power comes from a 649cc liquid-cooled 8-valve DOHC parallel-twin, delivering a claimed 59-60 hp at 8,250 rpm and roughly 39-42.5 lb-ft (54 Nm) of torque at 7,000 rpm through a 6-speed gearbox. ADV Pulse's own confirmed account is direct about where this engine architecture actually comes from: "a design borrowed from the Versys 650 under license from Kawasaki. This tried and tested powerplant has been around since 2008" — genuinely the same fundamental engine underpinning Kawasaki's own middleweight adventure-tourer, licensed rather than developed independently.
MCN's own detailed used-buying guide confirms genuinely strong standard equipment for the price: a fully adjustable Marzocchi front end, Brembo brakes, Bosch switchable ABS, and Pirelli tires, all "for under £7000" — undercutting the Aprilia Tuareg 660 by roughly £4,000 and the Triumph Tiger 660 Sport by £1,500. That same review flags genuine trade-offs: "somewhat basic, with no riding modes and it is also a little on the heavy side."
Adventure Motorcycle Magazine's own long-term review confirms a genuine chassis limitation worth knowing before serious off-road use: "one problem with the X-Cape and Versys 650 are the lack of a full-cradle frame to mount real skid plates... the skid plate works more like a rain and rock guard for the engine," concluding the bike is genuinely better suited to being a "cross-tourer" or "Adventouring" machine than a dedicated trail bike. Standard equipment across the range includes a 7-inch color TFT display with Bluetooth, dual USB charging, an adjustable windscreen, and a 19-inch front wheel delivering 190mm of ground clearance on an 18-litre tank.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2022-2026 X-Cape 650 running the way it was built to.
