V7 Racer: The Red-Framed Café Racer with a Chrome Tank, Billet Rear-Sets and Bitubo Shocks

Moto Guzzi debuted the V7 Racer in 2011 as a numbered limited edition of 150 bikes, a tribute to the V7 Sport racers of the 1970s. It then continued as a full-production version of the V7 Classic loaded with extras. The look is café: downswept bars, a red double-cradle frame, red swingarm and hubs, a chrome fuel tank held by a leather strap, a suede solo seat and number plates blended into the tail section and above the headlight. A plate on the steering stem carries the limited-edition number. A numbered flyscreen and tail cowl came on the first bikes.

Power comes from the air-cooled 744cc 90-degree V-twin, set transversely in the frame, with pushrod-operated overhead valves, two valves per cylinder, a 80mm x 74mm bore and stroke and a 9.6:1 compression ratio. It is fuel-injected (Magneti Marelli) and makes about 48-50 hp (about 48.8 hp at 6,800 rpm on the claimed figures) and about 54.7 Nm (40.3 lb-ft) of torque at 3,600 rpm. The gearbox is a 5-speed with a cable-actuated single-plate dry clutch and shaft final drive.

The Racer's uprated chassis is its selling point. It has a 40mm Marzocchi fork with rubber bellows, fully adjustable twin Bitubo remote-reservoir rear shocks and billet aluminum adjustable rear-sets. The front brake is a 320mm disc with a four-piston Brembo caliper, and the rear is a 260mm disc with a two-piston caliper. The wheels are black wire-spoke units with silver spokes and red hubs, with an 18-inch front. Aluminum side covers, throttle-body covers and a muffler bracket add to the finish.

Confirmed figures list a 57.0-inch wheelbase, a 27.5-degree rake, 4.3 inches of trail and a 17-litre tank. US pricing was $9,990 for 2012. Early bikes had a chrome-effect plastic tank that owners report splitting and peeling, and the later bikes got a metal tank, so check which tank a customer's bike has.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2011-2013 V7 Racer running the way it was built to.
