V7 II Special (2014-2016): The V7 That Looks Back to the 1975 V750 S3
Moto Guzzi describes the V7 II Special as the version that most approaches the original spirit of its ancestor, starting from its "Essetre" (S3) graphics, inspired by the famous 1975 V750 S3. It has three glossy colour bases. One is classic black with orange stripes, a faithful revisit of the S3's colours, and the other two are new: metallic red, and light blue with a silver stripe. It has the V7 II's underlying upgrades, a new six-speed gearbox, Continental two-channel ABS and MGCT traction control, plus an engine tilted forward and lowered in a modified frame.
What sets the Special apart from its siblings is detail. It has a guard on the fork stanchions in place of the dust boots on the Stone and Racer. The wheels are spoked with black anodised alloy rim channels, where the Stone has cast alloy wheels that are about 1.4 kg lighter at the front and 0.9 kg lighter at the rear. The tank has an embossed logo, and the rear light and the black brake and clutch levers are new for the V7 II.
Power comes from the air-cooled 744cc 90-degree V-twin, with pushrod-operated overhead valves, two valves per cylinder, an 80mm x 74mm bore and stroke and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. It makes about 50 hp (37 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 60 Nm of torque at 2,800 rpm, through a six-speed gearbox with shaft final drive. Fuel comes from a Magneti Marelli MIU G3 ECU with a 38mm throttle body, and the exhaust has a three-way catalytic converter and twin lambda probes.
The chassis is a double-cradle steel frame with a 40mm fork (130mm of travel) and twin rear shocks with about 111mm of wheel travel. Confirmed figures list a 1,449mm wheelbase, a 790mm (31.1-inch) seat height and a wet weight of about 190 kg (419 lbs). The tank holds about 21-22 litres depending on the source, and the UK price was £7,634.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2015-2016 V7 II Special running the way it was built to.
