V7 Classic (2008-2013): Moto Guzzi's Tribute to the 1967 V7, and the Bike That Became Its Best Seller
Moto Guzzi launched the V7 Classic as a tribute to the original 1967 V7, the first Italian maxi motorcycle, created by Giulio Cesare Carcano with a transverse 90-degree V-twin. Retro stylists say few manufacturers do retro as well. The tank keeps the sculpted shape of the V7 Special launched in 1969, and the narrow bike mimics the compact dimensions of the original, with classic spoked-wheel styling. It went on to become Moto Guzzi's best-selling model from 2009.
Power comes from the air-cooled 744cc 90-degree V-twin, with pushrod-operated overhead valves, two valves per cylinder and an 80mm x 74mm bore and stroke. It has special low-wear graphite pistons and aluminium alloy cylinders. Claimed output was 48 hp on the 2008 bike and about 49 hp at 6,800 rpm on later years, with about 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) of torque at 3,200 rpm. Fuel is injected, and the gearbox is a 5-speed with a dry clutch and shaft final drive. Moto Guzzi says it's known for reliability and low consumption, and the five-speed shifts best if it isn't rushed.
The chassis is a double-cradle steel frame with Marzocchi suspension. Brakes are a four-piston Brembo caliper at the front and a two-piston Brembo disc at the rear. Tires are a 110/90-18 front and a 130/80-17 rear.
Confirmed figures list a 1,435mm (56.5-inch) wheelbase, a 2,185mm length, an 800mm width and a 1,115mm height. Seat height is 805mm (31.7 inches), and the tank holds 17 litres (4.5 gallons). Weight rose across the run, from about 182 kg dry in 2008 to about 198 kg by 2012-2013. Top speed is about 120 mph. The sibling Café Classic arrived in 2009. The V7 Classic's five-speed, ABS-free layout carried on until the V7 II brought a six-speed gearbox in 2015.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2008-2013 V7 Classic running the way it was built to.
