Stelvio 1200 NTX: Moto Guzzi's Fully Loaded Adventure-Tourer, with a 2012 Update
The Stelvio is named after the famous Alpine pass with its 84 hairpin corners. The NTX is the fully equipped version, with aluminium panniers, aluminium crash protection, hand guards, an extra-large windshield and ABS as standard. The 2012 update brought a bigger tank, switchable traction control, heated grips and an integrated ignition and fuelling ECU for better throttle control. A 2012 model listed at $15,990 in the US, in Lava Black or Burnt Orange.
Power comes from the 1,151cc air- and oil-cooled 90-degree transverse V-twin, Moto Guzzi's Quattrovalvole (four valves per cylinder), first introduced in 2006. Early bikes were rated at about 105-110 hp. The 2012 engine got new cam profiles and conical valve springs and claims 105 hp at 7,250 rpm and about 113 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque at 5,800 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed with an easy-to-find neutral, and final drive is by shaft.
The chassis is a high-strength steel twin-spar frame with an adjustable upside-down fork and rear shock. Brakes are Brembo radial calipers on a three-disc system with Continental ABS that can be switched off, and the 2012 bike added ATC traction control that can also be turned off. Tires are a 110/80-19 front and a 150/70-17 rear.
Confirmed figures list a 1,550mm wheelbase, an 840mm (33.1-inch) seat height and an early dry weight of about 214 kg, with equipped weight rising to about 251 kg. The tank grew from about 18 litres on the early bikes to 8.5 US gallons on the 2012 bike.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 NTX running the way it was built to.
