Stelvio: Moto Guzzi’s All-New Adventure Bike with the 1,042cc Liquid-Cooled V-Twin

The new Stelvio is the second Guzzi to use the 1,042cc compact-block engine that debuted on the V100 Mandello in 2023. It’s an all-rounder adventure bike aimed at the Suzuki V-Strom 1050 and Honda Africa Twin. The traditional longitudinal, transverse V-twin with shaft drive remains, but with liquid cooling and a more compact design. The engine has DOHC four-valve heads turned 90 degrees to the old air-cooled small block for tighter packaging. It sits in a trellis frame like the Mandello’s, with revised geometry, more length and six engine mounting points instead of four. The 2024 US price was $16,390, with the optional PFF Rider Assistance Solution using 4D imaging radar front and rear.

The engine is a 1,042cc liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin with a 96mm x 72mm bore and stroke and a 12.6:1 compression ratio. It makes a claimed 115 hp (84.6 kW) at 8,700 rpm and 105 Nm (77.4 lb-ft) of torque at 6,750 rpm, with 82 percent of maximum torque available from 3,500 rpm and a 9,500 rpm limiter. It has dual 52mm throttle bodies, ride-by-wire, a Marelli 11MP ECU and a Continental six-axis IMU, and it meets Euro 5+. The gearbox is a 6-speed with an anti-hopping clutch and shaft final drive.

Electronics include cornering ABS, traction control, adjustable engine braking, cruise control, five riding modes (Sport, Strada, Turismo, Pioggia and Off-road), full LED lighting with daytime running and cornering lights, an electronically adjustable windscreen and a 5-inch TFT display. The PFF option adds forward collision warning, blind-spot information and lane change assist, with following cruise control as an accessory.

The chassis has a 46mm inverted fork with 170mm of travel and a monoshock with 170mm of travel, with Brembo brakes. Tires are a 120/70-19 front and a 170/60-17 rear. Confirmed figures list a seat height of about 830mm, a tank of about 21 litres and a weight of about 246 kg ready to ride.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Moto Guzzi Stelvio running the way it was built to.
