California 1400 Touring SE: Moto Guzzi's 1380cc Flagship Tourer

Moto Guzzi's California 1400 uses the largest twin ever built in Europe, a 1,380cc air- and oil-cooled 90-degree V-twin with a single overhead cam and four valves per cylinder. The bore is 104mm, the stroke 81.2mm and the compression ratio 10.5:1. It makes a claimed 96 hp at 6,500 rpm and about 120 Nm (88 lb-ft) of torque at 2,750 rpm, through a 6-speed gearbox and shaft final drive. Fuel comes from a Magneti Marelli ride-by-wire system with a 52mm throttle body, three engine maps, traction control and cruise control, and ABS is standard.

The Touring is the fully equipped version of the California, with large hard bags that can carry a week's luggage. Testers called it nimble and intuitive despite its size, and found the cruise control better than mechanical systems.

The bike is physically large. Confirmed figures list a 66.3-inch (1,685mm) wheelbase, a 96.2-inch length, 32 degrees of rake with 6.1 inches of trail, and a seat height of about 29 inches. Dry weight is about 718 lbs (326 kg). Tires are a Dunlop 130/70 R18 front and a 200/60 R16 rear. The US MSRP was $17,990 in 2013 and $18,490 by 2018.
