Audace 1400 (2015-Onwards): Moto Guzzi's "Murdered-Out" Sport Cruiser
"Audace" means "bold" in Italian, and Moto Guzzi's statement bike lives up to it. It is a blacked-out, performance-minded California-based cruiser, and the factory's press kit drops the California name altogether to aim at a younger audience. Compared with the California Custom, it tosses the bulky bits (the polyelliptical headlight and wide floorboards) for a round headlight, a brief carbon-fiber front fender, a lower single seat, repositioned footpegs and a drag-style handlebar. It has a matte-black colour scheme, even on the engine and exhaust, with the black-painted cylinder heads showing in cutouts beside the tank. Two colours were offered, red and black.
Power comes from the 1,380cc air- and oil-cooled 90-degree V-twin, with a 104mm bore, an 81.2mm stroke and a 10.5:1 compression ratio. It makes a claimed 96 hp at 6,500 rpm and about 120-121 Nm (89 lb-ft) of torque at 2,750-3,000 rpm, through a 6-speed gearbox with shaft final drive. Electronics are ride-by-wire fuel injection, riding modes, three-level traction control and ABS. The engine later became Euro 4 approved with a secondary air system and new catalytic converter.
The chassis uses a 45mm telescopic fork with dual 320mm front discs and four-piston Brembo calipers, twin side-mounted adjustable shocks, and a 282mm rear disc with a two-piston Brembo caliper. Wheels are cast aluminum, an 18-inch front on a 130/70 tire. Confirmed figures list a 740mm (29.1-inch) seat height, a 2,445mm length, a 20.5-litre (5.4-gallon) tank, and a dry weight of about 300 kg (661 lbs) or 337 kg (743 lbs) running order. Launch pricing in Italy was €18,690.
The Audace Carbon, which debuted at Intermot, shares this mechanical base but adds carbon trim, red milled aluminium head covers, a new bar shape, cruise control and full ride-by-wire.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Moto Guzzi Audace 1400 running the way it was built to.
