2655 HST (2018-2020): The Compact Tractor With the Industry's Biggest Displacement Engine

Mahindra's own dealer literature makes a specific, verifiable claim: the 2655 HST features "the largest displacement engine in the industry" for its horsepower class — a genuine engineering choice, not just a spec-sheet flex. Part of the 2600 Series sitting between the smaller 2645 and larger 2665, the 2655 pairs that big-displacement approach with Mahindra's mCRD fuel-efficient technology to deliver more horsepower at lower rpm than comparable competitors, translating to reduced fuel consumption, cooler running temperatures, and longer engine life.

Power comes from a 4-cycle, three-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine, displacing 2.62 litres (161.5 cubic inches) via a 96.0mm bore and 122.0mm stroke, with a 17.2:1 compression ratio delivering a rated 55 hp at 2,300 rpm and 44.5 PTO horsepower. Maximum torque comes in at 201 Nm (149 lb-ft) at 1,500 rpm, run through direct injection fuel delivery with a mechanical governor. The infinitely variable HST (hydrostatic) transmission offers three speed ranges with a dry-type single clutch, giving operators smooth, pedal-controlled speed adjustment rather than manual gear shifting — genuinely useful for repetitive loader or PTO work.

Standard equipment includes wet disc brakes, hydrostatic power steering, and a 12V/96Ah electrical system with mobile charging capability. The Cab trim adds a fully enclosed, climate-controlled interior with Bluetooth radio, large dual-side access doors, and Mahindra's mCOMFORT seat featuring extra cushioning, lower back support, and full suspension adjustment — genuinely upscale amenities for a compact utility tractor.
