Ninja ZX-10R (2011-2015): "The Bike to Change This" — Kawasaki's First Real Answer to the BMW S1000RR

MCN's own review frames this generation's genuine significance directly: subsequent versions of the earlier ZX-10R "were diluted to the point that they were regarded as decent on the road superbikes but not up to competition from the likes of the Honda Fireblade, the tech-laden Yamaha R1 or the almighty BMW S1000RR. The 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R was the bike to change this. It was the first of the Japanese bikes to come out fighting against the all-conquering BMW, which was launched in 2009." That same review confirms a real, first-of-its-kind milestone: "the modern day ZX-10R... was also the first Japanese superbike to come with traction control as standard."

Power comes from a 998cc liquid-cooled inline-four, delivering a claimed 200 hp at 13,000 rpm and roughly 84 lb-ft (114 Nm) of torque at 11,500 rpm through a 6-speed transmission with wet multi-disc clutch and chain final drive. Wikipedia's own confirmed account describes exactly what Kawasaki's Sport Kawasaki Traction Control (S-KTRC) actually does: "it predicts when traction will be lost and adapts accordingly," a genuinely different, more sophisticated approach than a simple wheel-speed-comparison system.

Autoevolution's own confirmed 2012 update account details real hardware refinement rather than a cosmetic carryover: "stronger camshafts, crankshaft, and pistons that increased durability, larger intake valves, and an Electronically Controlled Unit (ECU) that came in a lighter package," alongside the Kawasaki Intelligent Braking System (KIBS), adjustable footpegs, lighter three-spoke wheels, and a Showa Big Piston Fork. MCN's own owner-collected testimony confirms genuine real-world dominance: "it's a brilliant bike, the proof has been in the results worldwide, and lap records have tumbled here in the UK. It's so damn fast... with a pipe and power commander you're tapping on the door of 200bhp and that is at the back wheel."

Autoevolution's own confirmed chassis account lists a seven-piece cast aluminum twin-spar frame and matching cast aluminum swingarm, dual 310mm petal front discs with radial-mounted four-piston calipers, and a 220mm rear petal disc. A limited-run 30th Anniversary edition closed out this generation for 2015, commemorating the original 1984 GPZ900R with a Superbike Mondial-inspired livery and green suspension accents. Motorcycle.com's own confirmed 2015 pricing lists $14,299 standard, $14,599 for the 30th Anniversary edition.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2011-2015 Ninja ZX-10R running the way it was built to.
