Kawasaki Versys KLZ 1000 2015-2018 Service Manual

Kawasaki’s Versys 1000 mixes an upright, wide-barred riding position and long-travel suspension with a tuned version of its 1,043cc four-cylinder engine, making it a relaxed long-distance bike with a lot of reserve power. The 2015 update added standard ABS and three-level KTRC traction control, along with Full and Low power modes (Low cuts output by about a quarter and softens the throttle for wet roads), none of which is lean-angle sensitive. A tall adjustable screen, a 21-litre tank and a roomy seat make it a natural tourer, and the LT version adds luggage. The 2019 bike is a redesign, so this description covers the 2015-2018 bikes only.

The engine is a 1,043cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline four with four valves per cylinder (16 in all), a 77mm x 56mm bore and stroke and a 10.3:1 compression ratio. Fuel injection through 38mm throttle bodies with oval sub-throttles feeds it. Kawasaki quotes about 120 PS (roughly 118 hp) at 9,000 rpm and 102 Nm (75 lb-ft) of torque at 7,500-7,700 rpm. The gearbox is a six-speed with a wet multi-disc clutch and a sealed chain final drive.

The front suspension is a 43mm inverted fork with stepless adjustment and about 150mm (5.9 inches) of travel, and the rear is a gas-charged horizontal back-link shock with about 150mm of travel. Brakes are dual front discs and a rear disc with ABS. Tires are a 120/70ZR17 at the front and a 180/55ZR17 at the rear. Rake is 27 degrees, with about 106mm of trail on a 1,520mm (59.8-inch) wheelbase and about 150-155mm of ground clearance.

The Versys 1000 is about 2,240mm (88.2 inches) long, 895-900mm wide and 1,400mm high. Seat height is about 840-845mm (33.1-33.3 inches). The tank holds about 21 litres (5.5 gallons). The Versys 1000 weighs about 239 kg (527 lbs) wet on the 2015 bike and about 250 kg (551 lbs) on the 2016-2017 bikes.
