Kawasaki Versys 650 KLE650 (2010-2014): The Restyled Middleweight Sport-Tourer
For 2010 the Versys got new styling, with a sharper dual-headlamp headlight, a slender front cowl, new seats, an overall slimmer appearance, enlarged mirrors and improved rubber engine mounts. Under the new look it’s the same light-steering Versys, combining the agility of a naked bike with the comfort and practicality of a light sport-tourer, equally good for daily riding, back roads and touring. The suspension is long-travel and adjustable at both ends, the wheels are 17-inch 6-spoke alloys, and ABS was offered as an option. In some markets it was sold with a bigger 21-litre tank.
The engine is a 649cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel twin with four valves per cylinder (eight in all), an 83-84mm x 60-61mm bore and stroke and a 10.6:1 compression ratio. EFI with two 38mm Keihin throttle bodies feeds it. Kawasaki claims 64 hp (47 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 61 Nm (45 lb-ft) of torque at 6,800 rpm. The gearbox is a six-speed with a wet multi-plate clutch and a sealed chain final drive.
The frame is a diamond-type high-tensile steel design, with a 41mm inverted telescopic fork with stepless rebound adjustment and preload adjustment (about 5.9 inches of travel) and an offset laydown single shock with 13-way rebound damping and 7-way preload adjustment (about 5.7 inches of travel). Brakes are dual 300mm petal discs with two-piston calipers at the front and a single 220mm petal disc with a one-piston caliper at the rear. Tires are a 120/70ZR17 at the front and a 160/60ZR17 at the rear. The wheelbase is 1,415mm (55.7 inches), and ground clearance is about 180mm (7.1 inches).
The Versys 650 is about 2,125mm (83.7 inches) long, 840mm (33.1 inches) wide and 1,330mm high. Seat height is about 845mm (33.3 inches). The tank holds about 19 litres (5 gallons). The Versys 650 weighs about 206 kg (454 lbs) wet.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Versys 650 KLE650 running the way it was built to.
