KX100 (2012-2019): "Just Enough Muscle" — Kawasaki's Genuine Bridge Between the KX85 and Full-Size Competition

CycleChaos' own confirmed review sums up this bike's exact purpose: "if one is ready to advance from the smaller KX85 to the full-size Lites competition, the 2012 MY Kawasaki KX100 is a good option to fill in the gap between these categories. Featuring a liquid-cooled, 99cc, two-stroke engine, it offers just enough muscle for one to make the transition between classes." Autoevolution's own confirmed history places this platform's genuine origin: "the bike debuted in 1996 as a successor to the Kawasaki KX80," running consistent architecture and MSRP pricing in the $4,200-$4,250 range across your listed 2012-2013 span.

Power comes from a 99cc two-stroke single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, a 52.5mm x 45.8mm bore and stroke, a 9.6:1 (low speed) to 8.8:1 (high speed) compression ratio, fed by a Keihin PWK28 carburetor with a two-petal reed valve and digital CDI ignition, delivering drive through a genuine 6-speed transmission with chain final drive. CycleChaos' own confirmed 2013 account describes Kawasaki's own KIPS (Kawasaki Integrated Power Valve System) working to help this bike "combin[e] elements from the smaller KX85 and the much bigger and harder to handle KX250."

CycleChaos' own confirmed 2014 update details genuinely real mechanical work partway through this exact range: "a brand new two-stroke 99cc engine. Redesigned parts of it, like the cylinder head gasket, the piston, the Nikasil-coated cylinder, the larger outer diameter crankshaft and the resin block added to the crankshaft mean a 17% increase in high-rev power. Independent valves for each port of the KIPS system replace the older three-piece design," alongside a redesigned, flatter fuel tank with the cap moved 20mm lower for improved rider comfort.

Vital MX's own confirmed chassis specification lists a 36mm inverted telescopic cartridge fork with 18-way compression damping offering 10.8 inches of travel, paired with a Uni-Trak single shock offering matching travel with 4-way compression and 18-way rebound damping, braking through hydraulic front and rear discs on 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels, with a 34.3-inch seat height and 156.5-lb wet weight.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2012-2019 KX100's two-stroke engine and driveline running the way it was built to.
