SMS125/SM125 (2008-2012): "An Icon for the Sixteen-Year-Old" — Genuinely a Two-Stroke Turned Four-Stroke Mid-Range

The 2008-2009 SM 125 runs a 124cc two-stroke liquid-cooled single, fed by a PHBH 28 Dell'Orto carburetor, delivering a claimed 15 hp at 9,500 rpm through a 6-speed gearbox with chain final drive. Total Motorcycle's own confirmed 2012 model coverage describes the genuine electronic sophistication built into the two-stroke's later configuration: the ECS electronic carburetion system, developed with Dell'Orto, electronically controls both air/petrol and petrol/oil mixtures plus ignition timing — genuinely allowing this 2-stroke to meet Euro 3 requirements while retaining the lightness and low running costs the format is known for.

Autoevolution's own confirmed 2011-2012 SMS 125 specification lists a 124cc four-stroke liquid-cooled single delivering a claimed 15 hp at 9,000 rpm and 9 lb-ft (12 Nm) of torque at 8,000 rpm — a genuinely different engine from the earlier two-stroke SM 125, despite the near-identical model name and displacement class. Suspension on this later configuration consists of an inverted Marzocchi fork with 250mm of travel and an adjustable single shock offering 290mm at the rear, braking through a 260mm front disc with a four-piston caliper and a 220mm rear disc with a dual-piston caliper on 17-inch wheels.

Autoevolution's own confirmed year-by-year account notes 2012 carried the same specification as 2011 with only new handlebar guards, sold in red-and-white or black-and-white colorways with In-Mould Decoration graphics integrated directly into the plastics. This entire range shared its supermoto-styled off-road positioning with Husqvarna's related SMS4 four-stroke sibling of the same era.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2008-2012 SM125/SMS125's engine and driveline running the way it was built to.
