Husqvarna FC 450 (2015): The White Motocross Four-Stroke, Now on KTM’s Updated Chassis
2015 was the second year of Husqvarna’s partnership with KTM, which bought the brand in 2013. The FC 450 shares KTM’s 450 SX-F platform, and testers say the two roll down the same assembly line with identical geometry, wheelbase and weight bias. Almost every change KTM made to its 2015 model, Husqvarna made to the FC 450. The big changes were to the fork, shock linkage, axles, swingarm and rear suspension. The 2014 bike had KTM’s old-school 20mm rear axle and the swingarm from 2011, and for 2015 it gets the newer swingarm and the 25mm axle. All 2015 Husqvarnas also receive a revised, fully adjustable WP 4CS fork with damping tuned for motocross, and new Dunlop Geomax MX52 tires front and rear. The US-market FC 250 and FC 450 have a carbon-fiber-reinforced polyamide subframe.
Power comes from a 449cc liquid-cooled single with four valves per cylinder, a 95mm bore, a 63.4mm stroke and a 12.6:1 compression ratio, fed by 44mm Keihin fuel injection with electric start. The gearbox is a 5-speed with chain final drive.
Husqvarna’s own DCC (Dual Compression Control) rear shock from WP has new valving and 4mm more stroke. Compared with the KTM, the Husqvarna has differences such as a Euro-spec muffler, two seat bolts instead of one, and its own graphics, with a softer front-end feel. Testers also warn never to ride either bike without checking the rear sprocket bolts, and not to lift it by the rear fender.
Confirmed figures list a 1,495mm (58.9-inch) wheelbase, 371mm (14.6 inches) of ground clearance, a 7.5-litre tank and a dry weight of about 107 kg (236 lbs). The US MSRP was $9,149.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Husqvarna FC 450 running the way it was built to.
