Silver Wing 600/FSC600 (2002-2013): "The Most Powerful Scooter Ever" at Launch, and Genuinely Almost Unchanged for a Decade

Motor Scooter Guide's own retrospective doesn't undersell the genuine significance of this bike's arrival: "when it was introduced, the Silverwing was the most powerful scooter ever," and further notes it was "the second full size maxi-scooter introduced in the USA (after Aprilia's Atlantic 500), with Suzuki's landmark Burgman scooter arriving a year later." That same source calls out the platform's remarkable stability once launched: "the Silver Wing remained on sale through 2013. That's an impressive 12 years on the USA market with virtually no changes" — a genuine testament to how thoroughly Honda got the fundamental package right on day one.

Power comes from a 582cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin, 4 valves per cylinder, a 72.0mm x 71.5mm bore and stroke, and a 10.2:1 compression ratio, fed by PGM-FI fuel injection with an automatic enricher circuit, delivering a claimed 49.6 hp at 7,000 rpm and roughly 40 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm through Honda's V-Matic automatic belt-driven CVT transmission. MCN's own owner reviews are consistently enthusiastic about the real-world character this delivers: "excellent power despite being a 'tub of lard'. Twist and go really does accelerate well for a heavy bike. It's not a sports bike, but it can shift if you need to get a move on" — genuine performance from what's fundamentally a large, comfort-focused touring scooter.

Autoevolution's own year-by-year model history confirms the genuine, if modest, running changes across this long production span: ABS arrived as an option on select models in 2003, alongside a lighter ABS modulator and an enlarged front brake disc growing from 256mm to 276mm; 2004 brought a new T-Mode (Touring Mode) switch, a revised fuel injection system, and a redesigned, lower seat; 2005 added cosmetic updates and new colors; 2007 brought emissions updates; and 2009 added new graphics, gold-colored emblems, and gold brake calipers on ABS-equipped models — genuinely incremental refinement rather than any wholesale redesign across the model's entire 12-year North American run. MCN's own owner reviews consistently praise the touring-friendly practicality: "the bike is a decent all round bike, can carry huge amounts with an additional top box, good weather protection and providing the wind is not too strong, good for long motorway cruising stay at 70 all day long" — though several owners note genuine fatigue setting in after roughly 90 minutes due to vibration, and one owner specifically felt a second front disc would have inspired more braking confidence. The chassis pairs a 41mm hydraulic fork (120mm travel) with dual rear shocks offering five-position spring-preload adjustability (114mm travel), riding on 120/80-14 front and 150/70-13 rear tires. Claimed wet weight sits at 551 lbs, with a 4.2-gallon fuel tank and 29.7-inch seat height. Canadian sales ended after 2009, while the US market continued selling the Silver Wing 600 through the full 2013 model year before Honda discontinued it in favor of the smaller-footprint Integra and later X-ADV platforms.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2002-2013 Silver Wing 600/FSC600 running the way it was built to.
