SH125i (2005-2012): Fuel Injection Era, Europe's Bulletproof City Runabout

2005 marked a genuine technical step forward for the SH125i: Honda introduced PGM-FI electronic fuel injection that year, cutting both fuel consumption and emissions while bringing the model up to Euro 3 approval — a change that also opened North American, Canadian, and Australian market versions for the first time. This generation ran through 2012, right up to the point Honda gave the platform its first major redesign since launch.

The 125cc liquid-cooled single delivers a claimed 13 hp at 9,000 rpm through a fully automatic belt-drive transmission — genuinely uncomplicated, twist-and-go city transport. An underbone steel frame strikes a deliberate balance between rigidity and lightness, with dry weight in the 264-299 lb range depending on trim, and a seat height between 30.1 and 31.5 inches accommodating a wide range of rider sizes. Braking setups varied by year and trim: earlier models paired a front hydraulic disc with a rear drum, while later Sporty-trim examples (2012) upgraded to a combined braking system.

Reliability was the SH125i's calling card throughout this generation — the liquid-cooled engine resists overheating in stop-and-go traffic, and the PGM-FI system delivers consistent cold starts. Real-world maintenance intervals run oil changes every 4,000 km (2,485 mi) and drive belt replacement every 24,000 km (14,900 mi). Wind protection stays minimal at highway speeds, with the engine noticeably buzzy above 70 km/h (43 mph) — a scooter built for suburban commuting and city errands rather than long highway stretches.
