NT1100 (2021-2024): Europe's Best-Selling Tourer, Built on Africa Twin Bones
Introduced for 2022, the NT1100 quickly became something of a phenomenon for a bike in a segment many assumed had faded — Honda sold over 12,000 units across Europe in its first two years, and it was the continent's best-selling touring motorcycle in 2023. Motorcycle News put it simply: this is a low-ride, sports-touring version of the Africa Twin, wrapped in new bodywork and rolling on road-focused 17-inch wheels, evoking the spirit of Honda's beloved Deauville and Pan European tourers of years past.
Power comes from the 1,084cc parallel-twin shared directly with the CRF1100L Africa Twin, delivering a claimed 100 hp and around 77 lb-ft of torque, mounted in the same steel semi-double cradle frame with a bolt-on aluminum subframe. Showa suspension consists of 43mm front forks and a single-tube pressurized rear shock, giving the NT1100 sharp, sport-oriented steering geometry despite its genuinely low seat height — a combination reviewers found created a surprisingly agile package for a full-dress tourer. An optional Dual Clutch Transmission works like an automatic but allows manual paddle-shift control; several owner reviews and MCN's own testing preferred the standard manual gearbox, both for cost savings and for feeling more connected on twisty roads.
Standard touring equipment runs deep: a 5-way height-and-angle adjustable windscreen with upper and lower wind deflectors for genuine high-speed weather protection, standard cruise control, slim integrated panniers, and heated grips. Electronics include three default riding modes plus two customizable USER settings, Honda Selectable Torque Control, and Wheelie Control. 2024 brought purely cosmetic updates — two new colorways (Matt Jeans Blue Metallic and Candy Chromosphere Red, both with a Matt Ballistic Black Metallic rear carrier) and a matching carrier update to the existing Matt Iridium Gray Metallic finish — with the mechanical package left untouched. Kerb weight sits around 238kg (248kg with DCT), with a 20.4-litre fuel tank and 820mm seat height.
