CTX700 (2014-2018): Honda’s Comfort, Technology and eXperience Cruiser, with an Optional Dual-Clutch Gearbox

Honda announced the CTX series at the Chicago show in 2013. CTX stands for Comfort, Technology and eXperience. It offered two bodies, the CTX700 with a fairing and the naked CTX700N, and either could be had with Honda’s automatic Dual Clutch Transmission. The DCT versions add a D to the name (CTX700D and CTX700ND) and come with ABS, which isn’t offered on the manual bikes. It’s a relaxed, low-seat motorcycle aimed at new and returning riders and commuters.

Power comes from a 670cc liquid-cooled SOHC parallel-twin, with four valves per cylinder, a 73mm x 80mm bore and stroke and a 10.7:1 compression ratio, fed by 36mm fuel injection. Fuel economy is rated at about 64 mpg on the manual bike and 61 mpg on the DCT. The gearbox is a 6-speed manual, or a second-generation 6-speed dual-clutch automatic with manual and sport modes and button shifting on the handlebar. The DCT has two hydraulically controlled clutches, so there is no clutch lever. Final drive is by chain.

The chassis is a rigid, compact diamond steel frame with a low center of gravity. Brakes are a single 320mm front disc with a two-piston caliper and a single 240mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper. Tires are a 120/70 ZR17 front and a 160/60 ZR17 rear.

Confirmed figures list a 1,529mm (60.2-inch) wheelbase, a 719mm (28.3-inch) seat height, 130mm of ground clearance and 114mm of trail. The tank holds 3.27 gallons. Curb weight was about 494 lbs for the CTX700 and 516 lbs for the CTX700D in 2014. The CTX700N DCT listed at $7,699 in 2018, and base pricing started at $7,999 in 2014.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2014-2018 Honda CTX700 running the way it was built to.
