Introduced in 2017 as the CRF250L Rally, this model got a genuine step up in 2021: a 15% displacement increase, a new name, and a real reworking rather than just a badge change. Cycle World calls it Honda's smallest adventure model, "one of the most affordable and approachable ways to explore on and off-road" — a description that's held up as the platform matured through the mid-2020s.

Power comes from a 286cc liquid-cooled four-stroke single, managed by Programmed Fuel Injection through a 38mm throttle body. The 2021 revision brought more than just displacement: a 9-pound weight reduction, updated geometry, and upgraded suspension improved both on- and off-road handling, while a larger fuel tank extended the bike's genuine long-distance range — Honda's own testing has shown over 250 miles from the 3.4-gallon tank thanks to excellent fuel economy.

Suspension consists of a 43mm inverted telescopic fork with 229mm of travel up front and a Pro-Link single shock offering matching travel at the rear, riding on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels with 296mm front and 220mm rear discs, both benefiting from standard ABS. Styling deliberately echoes Honda's Dakar-winning factory rally machines: a tall windscreen, extra-coverage fairing, and side panels providing genuine wind and weather protection, with a deliberately slim rear section that keeps mass concentrated near the front for easier rider movement standing on the pegs.

2025 brought targeted refinements based on rider feedback: stiffer shock damping for improved bottoming resistance, a bearing replacing the rubber bushing in the upper shock mount for smoother initial suspension movement, updated fork damping, a new radiator fan and grille for better heat management, and LED headlight and turn signals for improved visibility. Pricing has held around $6,500 across recent model years.
