Motor Scooter Guide's own history captures a genuinely odd sales pattern: Honda sold the Helix in the US for just 1986-1987 before dropping it for 1988 as leftover '87 stock clogged showrooms — then brought it back in 1992 after enthusiasts kept asking for it, and again in 2003 after briefly retiring it a second time in favor of the Reflex, selling both models side by side until finally discontinuing them together after 2007. Sold as the Helix in North America and the Fusion or Spazio elsewhere, the CN250 replaced Honda's smaller CH250 Elite/Spacy, stretching the wheelbase 14 inches longer for a genuinely different riding position.

Power comes from a 244cc liquid-cooled SOHC single, delivering output through Honda's V-Matic continuously variable transmission — twist-and-go simplicity with no clutch or gear shifting required. The added length over the CH250 allowed a proper feet-forward seating position and a smoother ride than Honda's earlier scooters offered, with a top speed limited to 70-75 mph. Despite the seemingly modest numbers, the drivetrain used a deliberately under-stressed design that let the CN250 run at or near top speed for extended periods without strain — genuinely well-suited to sustained highway use rather than just city hopping.

Over its remarkable 20-year run, Honda made only minor changes: aluminum rims replaced the original steel wheels in the early 1990s, and various emission controls were added incrementally to keep the engine compliant with tightening standards. Beyond that, the scooter stayed genuinely unchanged, right down to its distinctly 1980s-style, multi-colored digital gauge cluster. Full bodywork, a pointy front end, a tall windscreen, a one-piece dual seat with passenger grab rails and backrest, an integrated rear top case, and eight-spoke aluminum wheels defined the look throughout. In Japan specifically, the Helix built a genuine cult following among younger riders, not unlike sportbike culture in America — a big part of why Honda kept bringing the model back despite multiple attempts to retire it in favor of newer designs.
