CBR650R/RA (2019-2020): The "R" That Genuinely Takes More DNA From the RR Stable Than Ever

WebBikeWorld's own confirmed account frames this bike's naming and design intent directly: "the 'R' designation simply indicates that the CBR650R takes more DNA from the 'RR' stable than ever before... the CBR650R takes as a lot of stylistic cues from the current CBR1000RR." Ultimate Motorcycling's own launch review confirms the genuine engineering ambition behind this 2019 replacement for the outgoing CBR650F: "the new middleweight canyon-carver comes with a host of mechanical updates that aim to up the performance."

Power comes from a 649cc liquid-cooled DOHC 16-valve inline-four, an 11.6:1 compression ratio, delivering a claimed 85.83-95 hp (crank figures vary by source) at 11,000 rpm and roughly 46.5-64 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm — Cycle World's own confirmed in-house dyno testing on the 2019 model measured 80.1 hp at 10,950 rpm and 41.73 lb-ft of torque at 8,170 rpm at the rear wheel. Ultimate Motorcycling's own detailed account confirms genuine hardware behind that gain: "changes to hard parts come in the form of a new piston with an updated shape, revised cam profile, and revised valve timing. Additionally, a new airbox and filter work in conjunction with a ram-air intake to provide superior airflow."

WebBikeWorld's own confirmed styling account notes the fairing was styled after Marc Márquez's Honda RC213V MotoGP machine, aerodynamically shaped for genuine high-speed tuck-in capability. Standard equipment across both model years includes ABS and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), a full-flat LCD instrument panel showing speedometer, tachometer, gear position, water temperature, and fuel level, plus a 4.1-gallon fuel tank.

The chassis uses a steel diamond frame with a 41mm fork and single shock with spring-preload adjustability, riding on 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear tires. Motorcycle.com's own confirmed 2020 pricing lists $9,699 for the ABS-equipped RA variant, with the RA designation standard across the range in most markets.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2019-2020 CBR650R/RA ABS running the way it was built to.
