CBR600RR (2003-2006): An RC211V MotoGP-Derived 600 with a 15,000 rpm Redline

Honda built the first CBR600RR from technology on its RC211V MotoGP bike. That included the Unit Pro-Link rear suspension, a center-up exhaust and Honda's Dual Stage Fuel Injection (PGM-DSFI), which uses two injectors per cylinder. It replaced the CBR600F4i and runs a very high 15,000 rpm redline for a middleweight four.

Power comes from a 599cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four with four valves per cylinder. It has a 67mm x 42.5mm bore and stroke and a 12.0:1 compression ratio. Claimed output is about 117 PS (86 kW) at 13,000 rpm and about 6.7 kgf-m (65.7 Nm) of torque at 11,000 rpm, through a 6-speed wet multi-plate gearbox. The engine is 30mm shorter than the F4i's, which helped the rider's position and the bike's compactness. The frame is a lightweight aluminum unit cast with Honda's Hollow Fine Die Cast technology.

The range splits into two distinct sub-generations. The 2003-2004 bikes carried over unchanged apart from an added oxygen sensor on the 2004. In 2005 Honda revised the bike with new bodywork, fully adjustable 41mm inverted forks, radial-mount four-piston front calipers, a new aluminum frame, swingarm and rear shock, a catalytic converter and about 10kg less weight. The 2006 model is unchanged from 2005. A part from the 2003-2004 bike therefore isn't guaranteed to fit a 2005-2006 bike, particularly forks, frame and brake parts.

Confirmed figures list a 2,010mm length, 695mm width, 1,115mm height and 820mm seat height, with an 18-litre tank. Tires are 120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear. Top speed is about 158 mph (254 km/h). Honda replaced the model with an all-new CBR600RR for 2007.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2003-2006 CBR600RR running the way it was built to.
