Honda CB750F Super Sport (1975-1978): The Sportier Four-Into-One CB750

Honda’s CB750F Super Sport took the engine and gearbox of the CB750K-series and wrapped them in a new super-sport style, with a new frame (with a lengthened swingarm), a longer tank, a new seat with a fiberglass rear cowl, a rear disc brake and a four-into-one exhaust. It was sold alongside the K-series as a European-style alternative to the sport-tourer, with revised cam timing, higher-domed pistons and slightly more valve lift. The first model, the F0 (1975), came in Flake Sunrise Orange or Candy Sapphire Blue, with spoke wheels and a single front and rear disc brake. The 1976 F1 came in Sulfur Yellow or Candy Antares Red. The 1977 F2 added ComStar wheels, dual front discs, a black-finished engine and a revised exhaust, and the 1978 F3, sold only in North America, had minor cosmetic changes to the tank stripes and side panel emblems. It tops out at about 114-125 mph.

The engine is a 736cc air-cooled SOHC transverse inline four with two valves per cylinder (eight in all), a bore and stroke of 61mm x 63mm and four carburetors. Honda’s claimed output is about 58 hp at 8,000 rpm on US bikes (the original CB750 was 67 hp, and a UK guide quotes 69 bhp for the F1), and the F2’s revised engine makes its power at higher rpm, with a 9,500 rpm redline. The gearbox is a five-speed with chain final drive (18/46 sprockets, a 530 chain on the 1975-76 bikes and a 630 from 1977).

The 1975-76 bikes have a 296mm front disc with a two-piston caliper and a 296mm rear disc, and the F2 and F3 have dual front discs of about 276mm. Tires are a 3.25-19 at the front and a 4.00-18 at the rear, with a telescopic front fork and twin rear shocks with five-way preload adjustment.

The tank holds about 4.7-4.8 gallons (about 18 litres). The CB750F weighs about 218-227 kg (481-449 lbs) dry, and about 538 lbs (244 kg) wet, rising to about 540 lbs or more on the F2.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a CB750F running the way it was built to.
