Unveiled alongside the CB500F and CBR500R at EICMA in 2012, the CB500X rounded out Honda's new-for-2013 family of 500cc parallel-twins built specifically for Europe's A2 licensing rules and novice-friendly power limits. Motorcycle News called it the best of the three, arguing the X's slightly larger proportions made it a more versatile, genuinely full-size-feeling machine without sacrificing the manageability that made the whole trio approachable for newer riders.

The 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin, fed by Honda's PGM-FI system, delivers a claimed 47 hp at 8,500 rpm and roughly 32 lb-ft of torque at 7,000 rpm. What stood out to reviewers wasn't the peak numbers but the flat torque curve — Motorcycle.com noted meaningful torque available as low as 2,500 rpm, giving the CB500X an easy, user-friendly delivery that made it forgiving in traffic and genuinely engaging on faster roads alike. A diamond-shaped 35mm steel tube frame kept the package light and rigid, with adjustable suspension geometry aimed at real adventure-touring capability rather than just styling.

Distinctive touches within the 500-twin family included stealthy matte black bodywork, a roughly one-inch increase in fork travel and seat height over the CB500F and CBR500R, a height-adjustable windscreen, and a larger, carefully shaped fuel tank supporting an upright, unrestricted riding position. A 31.9-inch seat height suited taller riders particularly well, paired with low, comfortable footpeg placement. Owners have consistently reported excellent fuel economy, often in the 70+ mpg range, and low overall running costs — a combination that made the CB500X a popular budget-friendly entry into full-size adventure-style motorcycling.
