Benly 125 (C92/CA92): The Sport-Bred Blueprint Behind a Legend

The Benly 125 was Honda's proof of concept that small-displacement bikes didn't have to feel small. Introduced as the C92 in 1958 with 11.5 hp at a then-remarkable 9,500 rpm, it gained an electric start and dual seat for 1959, becoming the C92 internationally and the CA92 in the American market — a genuine engineering statement wrapped in unassuming, practical styling.

Power comes from a 124cc OHC parallel twin, running an 18mm Keihin carburetor and an 8.3:1 compression ratio for a claimed 12 hp at 9,500 rpm, delivered through a 4-speed transmission with both electric and kick start. That combination of high-revving performance and everyday convenience was almost unheard of on a 125cc roadster in the late 1950s, and it laid the direct groundwork for the sportier CB92 Super Sport that followed the same year.

Styling differed by market: European-spec bikes ran flat pressed-steel handlebars, while American CA92 models got raised tubular bars for a more upright, touring-friendly riding position. Both versions shared the same twin-cylinder architecture and the same reputation for oil-tight reliability that helped convince skeptical Western riders Japanese engineering was the real deal.

These early Honda twins are increasingly scarce and increasingly valued by collectors. This service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a C92/CA92 Benly 125's engine and driveline running the way Honda built it.
