Sportster Iron 883 XL883N (2019): The Blacked-Out Bobber That Became Harley's Entry Point

Owners describe the Iron 883 as a fantastic, easy way to get into Harleys on a budget. Harley built it as a stripped-back bobber, black on black, with blacked-out rims, a simple dash and mirrors, and a low-slung seat, mid-mounted controls and a narrow frame. It keeps a peanut-style tank, so it's a small-tank Sportster at 3.3 gallons. Colours offered in 2019 included Black Denim, Barracuda Silver Denim, River Rock Gray and Scorched Orange/Silver Flux, and ABS was an option.

Power comes from the air-cooled 883cc Evolution V-twin, with pushrod-operated overhead valves and hydraulic self-adjusting lifters. It is rubber-mounted, and it makes about 51-52 hp and about 73-74 Nm (roughly 54 lb-ft) of torque. Drive is through a belt final drive. Fuel economy is rated at about 4.8 L/100 km, and top speed is about 160 km/h (99 mph). Tires are a 100/90-19 front and a 150/80-16 rear, and weight is about 247-256 kg (545-564 lbs), depending on whether it's quoted as shipped or ready to ride.

The 883 engine is a common platform. Many surviving bikes carry changes such as Vance & Hines exhausts, LED lighting, raised or bigger tanks and replaced covers, so confirm what a customer's bike actually has before ordering parts.
