Harley says the Iron 883 pushes minimal Dark Custom styling to the edge with a V-twin beat and gritty, old-school garage features. Every inch is styled for a raw, custom look, with chopped front and rear fenders, a classic 3.3-gallon peanut tank that angles down into the solo seat, low front and rear suspension and old-school fork gaiters. It has black 13-spoke cast aluminium wheels, a 19-inch front and a 16-inch rear. The $7,999 base price made it a popular starting point for customizing. In 2013 it came in Big Blue Pearl, Candy Orange and Black Denim.

Power comes from the air-cooled 883cc Evolution V-twin (53.88 cubic inches), with a 76.2mm x 96.8mm bore and stroke and an 8.8:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It makes about 53 hp, with torque of about 55 lb-ft (73 Nm) at 3,750 rpm. A chain primary drive and a 5-speed gearbox feed a belt final drive, and exhaust is chrome, staggered and shorty with dual mufflers.

The front fork is 39mm, giving about 3.6 inches of travel, with coil-over rear shocks that have about 1.6 inches. Brakes are a single front disc with a dual-piston caliper and a single-piston rear caliper. Tires are a 100/90-19 front (Dunlop D401F) and a 150/80B16 rear (D401). Confirmed figures list an 85.8-inch length, a 25.7-inch seat height, a dry weight of about 553 lbs (251 kg), about 573 lbs wet, and a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,000 lbs.
