Harley Davidson XL883L Sportster SuperLow 2020 Service Manual

The SuperLow is Harley’s easy-riding, low-slung entry into the Sportster family, an 883cc Evolution bike built to be easy to ride and easy to reach the ground on. Its low, narrow, ergonomic single seat sits just 25.5 inches from the ground (705mm unladen), and the narrow frame makes it easy to move through turns and down straights at varying speeds. It suits shorter riders and newer riders, with handlebars set for riders who aren’t tall. The look is classic Sportster, with a chrome, staggered shorty exhaust with dual mufflers and black split 5-spoke wheels.

Power comes from the air-cooled, rubber-mounted 883cc Evolution V-twin, with a 76.2mm bore, a 96.8mm stroke and a 9:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is 69 Nm (about 51 lb-ft) at 4,750 rpm by the European EC 134/2014 test method, and power is about 52 PS (39 kW) at 5,750 rpm. The gearbox is a 5-speed with a multi-plate wet clutch, a 38/57 chain primary drive and belt final drive. Overall gear ratios are 9.315 in first, 6.653 in second and 4.948 in third, and Harley lists fuel economy of about 49 mpg.

The steel-framed chassis is relaxed, with a 31.1-degree rake and 145mm of trail on a 1,500mm wheelbase. Tires are a 120/70ZR18 59W front and a 150/60ZR17 66W rear, braked by dual-piston calipers on the front and rear discs. Lean angles are about 24.7 degrees to the right and 24.4 degrees to the left.

The bike is 2,225mm long, 845mm wide and about 1,115mm high, with 100mm of ground clearance. The tank holds 17 litres, which gives it more range than the 883 Iron, and engine oil capacity is 2.6 litres with the filter. Weight is 247 kg as shipped (about 545 lbs) and 258 kg in running order (about 569 lbs).
