Sportster Forty-Eight Special XL1200XS (2019): Rainbow Tank Graphics and Fat Chopper-Style Tires

Harley revealed the Forty-Eight Special and the Iron 1200 together in early 2018. The Forty-Eight Special is the chopper-flavoured one. Its tank carries a rainbow graphic that recalls the Shovelhead Sportster era. It rides on a fat 130/90B16 front tire and a 150/80B16 rear, mounted on black split nine-spoke cast aluminum wheels with machined highlights. The exhaust is black and staggered, with slash-cut mufflers. Colours were Vivid Black, Billiard Red and Stone Washed White Pearl.

Power comes from the air-cooled 1,202cc Evolution V-twin, with a 88.9mm x 96.8mm (3.5 x 3.8-inch) bore and stroke and a 10:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It makes a claimed 65-67 hp at 6,000 rpm and about 96-99 Nm (about 73 lb-ft) of torque at 3,500 rpm. The gearbox is a 5-speed with a multi-plate clutch running in oil, a 57/38 chain primary and belt final drive. Oil capacity is about 2.6 litres, and fuel economy is rated at about 48 mpg.

Suspension is a telescopic fork up front and twin rear shocks. Brakes are a single front disc with a two-piston caliper and a single rear disc with a one-piston caliper, and ABS was optional.

Confirmed dimensions list a 30.2-degree rake with 5.3 inches (135mm) of trail, a 58.9-inch (1,495mm) wheelbase, an 85.2-inch (2,165mm) length and 4.3 inches (110mm) of ground clearance. Seat height is 26.2 inches laden and 27.8 inches unladen.
