Sportster Forty-Eight XL1200X (2019): "Stand All the Way Out" with Fat Tires and the Peanut Tank

Harley's own dealer copy for this bike says "stand all the way out": heavy-hitting style with fat tires and an iconic peanut tank, a signature bulldog stance and 1200cc of corner-cranking torque. Reviewers put it more bluntly: look up the word bobber in the dictionary and a picture of the Forty-Eight is likely to come up. The 2019 bike sits on the 2016-generation chassis. It has the 49mm conventional telescopic fork, and the tank holds just 2.1 gallons (7.9 litres), so it's the small-tank Sportster in the 1200 range. The Iron 1200 has 3.3 gallons.

Power comes from the air-cooled 1,202cc Evolution V-twin, with a 88.9mm x 96.8mm (3.5 x 3.8-inch) bore and stroke and a 10:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It makes about 67 hp at 6,000 rpm and about 96 Nm (roughly 71-73 lb-ft) of torque at 3,500 rpm, and drive goes through a belt final drive. Fuel economy is rated at about 5.2 L/100 km, and top speed is about 170 km/h (105 mph). With the small tank, owners get roughly 150 km (94 miles) per tank.

Suspension is the 49mm telescopic fork up front and twin rear shocks. Confirmed figures list a 1,495mm (58.9-inch) wheelbase and a 710mm (28-inch) seat height. Many surviving bikes have aftermarket changes such as larger tanks, ape bars and aftermarket exhausts, so confirm what a customer's bike actually carries before ordering parts.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2019 Sportster Forty-Eight XL1200X running the way it was built to.
